Check Out Our New "Embed Video" Feature

At CNN.com, we’re always working to enhance and improve the video experience for YOU, our consumers. We are very happy to announce our latest move in that effort with the introduction of the CNN.com embeddable video player, a stand-alone video player that can be virally distributed by using a code snippet to embed on almost any site or blog that you choose. For the time being, the player is limited to a single clip and available in the player size, 384×216. We've also added a share feature to allow you to share videos on your favorite social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace.

See something you like and want to share it with others? Just click on the button on the video player that says “embed this video”. Then, you will see a message allowing you to copy the embed code to place on your site. And, just like that, you’ve embedded CNN.com video! Or click on the share button and select a site from the list on which you'd like to share a video link .We hope you enjoy these latest features – let us know what you think!

Since your upgrade I cannot download any of your video's. It's pretty disturbing. I even d/c'd the pop up blocker. I am not overly computer savey but a friend who is couldn't get it to work either. I can go to any other site and get videos. Is there something I need to install?

CNN is my home page and I would like to keep it that way. My security is provided by bit defender. I'm sure there is others out there like me.

I look forward to your help. H

I see one humongous issue, namely that CNN videos expire quickly for non-subscribers. In the online video culture, this is unacceptable. Yesterday I tried to view a CNN video from the first week of the current month and I couldn't access it, and this is only mid-month. CNN could make the greatest video sharing service in the world and it wouldn't matter if the videos aren't available for extended periods.

That's the cool one!
Was really waiting for it BUT you really need to work on improving your bandwith or server capacities, because watching video on cnn is really hard nowadays. This is not fluid anymore, it keeps on stopping every x seconds...

But the new tool is cool! like it

Hey Sandy:

Thanks for this update. My websites cover the entire State of Arizona and use video for all my sites. This is wonderful that CNN has added this feature.

Glad you are taking feedback for the new video. That being said, this is awful. It is broken on Safari on Mac OS X and needs a plug in for Firefox on Windows?

Key rule of enterprise IT, *especially* in a media realm: Don't break what is working well – even to add a feature.

Avoid plug-ins, WMV, and always have a fall back option. Actually, it should have been introduced as a fall-forward option first. "Test drive our new embed-enabled video! Click here!"

Yes, people don't like change, but you should have been far more seamless than this. I like CNN content, and had gotten accustomed to the video being there and *working*. It was reliable, *like watching on TV*. Now, I am inclined to check out the competition.

It would be nice if any of your video players worked with Firefox 3.x

I have long since given up trying to watch CNN videos. They are nearly always unviewable. The audio is so so choppy as to be incomprehensible, and the video is nearly as bad. I do not have this problem with any other videos, such as Youtube or similar sites.

I would be happy to just see and hear your videos painlessly. The quality is the worst on the web. The audio part is particularly annoying. It cuts in and out. I love CNN, but always end up going elsewhere for videos.

When will you correct your video javascript and not choke on Flashblock?

I won't be removing Flashblock from mine, or my companies computers, so we'll be going elsewhere for video content. This has been an issue for over a year, and still CNN is the only site I visit that chokes on Flashblock.

PS Flashblock is a popular Firefox Add-On that blocks Flash content from playing until you decide to allow it. It makes browsing the web much less frustrating these days.

Here is their bug for this issue if someone from CNN would like to contribute.

Slow CNN.com downloads. Has anyone else noticed how long it is taking to open the CNN home page? The link "ads.cnn.com" is really slowing it down over the last couple of weeks.

I hate the new format! Put back the ticker line. The print on the bottom line is too small, even on the big TV! Put back the ticker line!
